Pennyboards ,Longboards and OldSchool Fish Tails are mainly designed for crusing around and not doing tricks.. Ideal if you simply want to cruise or use for transportation.. They provide a smooth ride. Mainly cause of the big soft wheels.etc
Some of them are made out of plastic and are a bit cushionly flexable to provide a comfortable ride ϟ
For doing tricks "Regular Skateboards" with concave or a tail and nose is what with you want to go with..These boards are made out of wood and built to be sturdy etc. Though you can also use a regular board to cruise or simply ride around ϟ
Basically you go with the style you like best . Also considering with what your going to use the board for ϟ
Pennyboards usually run for $100 .& Longboards are mostly expensive depending the brand and style/design ϟ

Regular Skateboards can be pricey. But it's woth it if you plan on keeping it for quiet sometime. Sometimes you can get good deals on completes though.. Etc Buying all the components seperately is better i think but will be a bit more expensive. But in result you can have your own Groovy Board ϟ
